Island Exotic Veterinary Care is a full service veterinary medical & surgical facility. It is the only exclusive avian & exotic veterinary hospital in Long Island. Our only purpose is attending to the medical & surgical needs of birds, rabbits, ferrets, chinchillas, guinea pigs, hedgehogs, prairie dogs, small rodents, lizards, snakes, turtles and tortoises. The hospital is predator-free; we do not see dog or cats. The staff consists of Dr. Heidi Hoefer, our veterinary intern Dr. La'Toya Latney, and specially trained veterinary assistants, and receptionists. We provide 24-hour care to our hospitalized patients.

Our Exotics Department is headed by Dr. Heidi Hoefer, a board-certified avian specialist. Dr. Hoefer has been treating exotic pets exclusively since 1988. Island Exotics has an exotic pet ICU with temperature controlled oxygen cages. We also have a large, separate ward for healthy exotic pet boarding care, and an isolation ward. We provide special services like endoscopy, ultrasonography, radiology, and surgery.
